The Elara 3T is a shim coil array for neuroimaging that is specifically designed to be mounted on the Philips 3T dStream* head RF coil. The shim coil array has 16 shim elements.
The shim coil has five modules for ease-of-installation and easy detachment from the RF head coil. Each module is thin (~10mm) and light-weight (~0.5kg). The anterior modules have eye-openings that not only make the patient experience more comfortable but also means visual fMRI studies can be performed. The shim coil array is optimised to have minimal impact on the RF coil performance. The shim elements are also optimised to minimise induced e.m.f. and eddy currents while maximising efficiency.
