Crusher coil

Carme

Crusher coil (2 channels) for crushing surface lipids (compatible with all field strengths).

CAUTION: Not a medical device. Limited by Federal (or United States) law to investigational use.

The crusher coil provides a hardware solution to lipid suppression and can be used instead of time-consuming lipid suppression pulses or saturation bands in the sequence (see https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24947343/). The crusher coil requires a trigger pulse to be generated by the MRI scanner for synchronisation of the crusher pulse. The crusher pulse can be set to a duration between 0.1ms to 50ms. The crusher pulse should be ON during the phase-encoding of each repetition time (TR) in the sequence.

The crusher coil can be used at any magnetic field strength, including (but not limited to) 1.5T, 3T, 7T, 9.4T. The crushing depth can be adjusted between 5mm to 35mm depth by varying the current supplied to the coil elements. The crusher coil has two independent elements so that the crushing depth can be adjusted for various head sizes. A two-channel current amplifier is provided with the system. The crusher coil is placed inside of the RF head coil and is compatible with most RF coils (compatibility with custom RF coils can be provided upon requested).
